The officers can also apply for the Permanent Commission after 2 years of service as an SSC officer provided that they are less than 30 years of age for a BDS graduate and less than 35 years of age for an MDS graduate and continue in service till retirement.Candidates for Army Dental Core are selected based on marks secured in NEET. Shortlisted candidates are further called to appear for an interview in New Delhi which is followed by a medical examination on qualifying.

JR ships are similar to internships where one joins a college, on a contractual basis for a duration of 6 months to one year. There are rotary clinical postings during which one gains hands-on clinical experience. .
